Military news

Navy Ensign Jonathan R. Smith, son of Army Master Sgt. Robert R. and Hyon H. Smith of Hudson, was recently commissioned upon graduation from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Program.

During college, Smith completed naval science courses and academic courses that fulfilled degree requirements. The courses, combined with annual summer training aboard ships and shore installation, served to prepare NROTC graduates for the intellectual, mental and physical challenges of a commissioned officer.

Smith is a 2007 graduate of Hudson High School and joined the Navy in November 2012. He is a 2012 graduate of University of South Florida, with a BS degree after receiving his AA degree in 2009 from Pasco-Hernando Community College, New Port Richey.
