Just 25 volunteer to retire from MacDill wing

TAMPA — Just 25 personnel at MacDill Air Force Base have been approved for what is essentially early retirement from the Air Force as part of the service's efforts to trim costs and reduce its ranks.

The 6th Air Mobility Wing reported the figure Friday, noting that the so called voluntary separations do not affect the number of personnel assigned to MacDill. About 3,000 airmen and women are assigned to the 6th. MacDill officials also said they did not have figures on the number of people who applied for separation.

Across the Air Force, 2,132 personnel are leaving the service under the program.
