Belleair appoints new parks and rec director

BELLEAIR — Within two weeks of the resignation of Parks and Recreation Director Eric Wahlbeck, the town has appointed his successor — his right-hand man, Ricky Allison.

His appointment was confirmed recently by a unanimous vote of the Town Commission.

In 2011 Allison was hired from his job in Clearwater to be in charge of Belleair’s Parks Department. Since then he was given the added responsibility of the town’s road projects and the makeover of the parks.

Among Allison’s qualifications are a master’s degree in public administration from the University of South Florida and a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Louisiana State University.

Allison is married to Chelsea and they have two children, Preston, 8, and Sawyer, 5. They live in Clearwater.

In presenting Allison to the commissioners, Town Manager J.P. Murphy said he spent a lot of time talking to the town staff.

"You have shown them strong leadership qualities," said Murphy. "The people you work with love you."
