Clearwater hires designer for waterfront dreams

CLEARWATER

The city will pay Tampa-based Stantec Consulting $834,238 to design the Imagine Clearwater waterfront redevelopment plan.

The $55 million redevelopment plan calls for converting Coachman Park into a garden and relocating its concert band shell to a new, 4-acre open green space, what is now the large parking lot just south of Coachman; an estuary under the Memorial Causeway; a half-mile Bluff Walk with shaded paths, gardens and terraces; and a plaza with water features and event space at the corner of Cleveland Street and Osceola Avenue.

The design phase could take up to a year, and city officials hope to begin construction by next January. City officials set 2021 as a goal to have most of Imagine Clearwater constructed. Only the redevelopment of the City Hall and Harborview sites are slated to continue past 2021, as both projects will have to go back to the voters for approval.
