INDIAN ROCKS BEACH — The City Commission has approved a reduction in the property tax rate. The rate for the coming fiscal year, 2019 will be $1.83 for every $1,000 in assessed, taxable property value, down from $1.93 for the past two years. For eight years prior to that the rate had been pegged at $2.

The rate was reduced because of an increase in property values.

Highlighting the budget for the coming fiscal year is a 3 percent raise for all city employees, not including the city manager or the city clerk. There is also a 6 percent increase in health benefit costs for employees.

There is an annual increase to the Sheriff’s Office for police work. The increase is 3.1 percent, the same as any locality where the sheriff provides service. Total cost of the police services is just over $1 million for the coming year.

The next public meetings to discuss the budget will be on Sept. 4 and Sept. 18. Both meetings begin at 7 p.m.
