ST. PETE BEACH — Fourth of July fireworks will go on this year as planned.
Robin Grabowski, president of the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce, confirmed Friday that her organization has successfully raised the $27,000 needed to stage the 25-minute pyrotechnics display.
The fireworks will begin at dusk (sometime between 8:30 and 9 p.m.) from a barge anchored in the Gulf of Mexico just off the Pinellas County Beach Access Park at 4700 Gulf Blvd.
The park includes metered parking for more than 200 cars, restrooms, showers, a water fountain and three boardwalks to access the beach.
"The show will be much bigger than we have had in years," said Grabowski, adding that the fireworks display will be designed and operated by the same company that put on the city's 50th anniversary fireworks several years ago.
The City Commission contributed $4,500 to the Fourth of July event several weeks ago and will be reimbursed if any more money is donated to the chamber.
Grabowski said more than 100 residents and businesses contributed to the event, including one resident who gave $4,000. Other donations ranged from $25 to thousands of dollars.
