BROOKSVILLE — The City Council will hold a special meeting on Tuesday night to discuss how to fill the seat of council member David Pugh Jr., who resigned unexpectedly on Sunday.
The meeting at 6 p.m. in council chambers will also deal with a proposed ordinance on how to fill council vacancies. If the ordinance is approved on first reading, the council will take a final vote on Feb. 8.
The council could schedule a special election, which could cost $25,000, or change the city code to allow the council to appoint a temporary replacement then add the seat to the ballot this fall.
Pugh, 37, did not give a reason for resigning his seat in the second year of a four-year term.
