Dade City enacts delayed stormwater fee

DADE CITY — The City Commission has enacted a stormwater assessment even though the city can't collect on it for a year due to a missed deadline.

On Tuesday, the commission voted unanimously to implement an assessment of $3.75 a month, or $45 a year, which will appear on property tax bills next year. The city had to wait a year to collect after missing a deadline to file necessary paperwork with Pasco County Tax Collector Mike Fasano's office.

The missed deadline stalled hopes of using the funds to upgrade a stormwater system that has been described by city engineer Gordon Onderdonk as "inadequate" and susceptible to flooding.

Estimates are the assessment will generate $280,000 a year beginning in November 2015.
