Davis Islands dog beach boat ramp to close for repair

TAMPA — Starting Monday, the boat ramp at the Davis Islands dog beach will be closed until a renovation project is finished in December. City officials say the wakes from passing vessels have eroded the beach and shore line, exposing rubble and jeopardizing dogs and their owners. As a result, the city is spending $273,082 to build an off-shore break water, install artificial reef modules, and add and renew sand to prevent erosion. The city also is repairing and repaving the boat ramp and adding landscaping.
