The large, enclosed Discovery Playground was filled with some of the last remaining wooden structures in the area before most of the components were replaced using composite lumber — a mixture of wood fiber, plastic, and binding agents. The components look like wood but are more water-resistant and require less maintenance. Rebuilt with the theme of a castle, the Discovery Playground features winding tunnels and stairs, climbing and hanging activities, a tot lot and a tire swing. The playground is surrounded by the baseball and soccer fields of the Tarpon Sports Complex, 150 N Jasmine Ave., in Tarpon Springs.
