Pinellas residents will pay more for some services offered by Animals Services after the County Commission recently initially okayed fee changes.

Among the changes, which will come to the board in August for formal approval, are:

• A new $25 minimum veterinary fee for animals picked up by the county and claimed by owners.

• A new $10 fee for late payment of pet registration.

• A new fee, to be based on the market rate, for heartworm and flea medication.

• A $10 increase to the euthanasia and crematory services, bringing the total fee to $50.

• A $10 increase to the crematory services fee, bringing it to $30.

The fees are expected to bring in about $43,000 next year. They won't take effect until Oct. 1.
