Floodplain map open house set in Pasco

NEW PORT RICHEY — Pasco residents hit by high rates under the National Flood Insurance Program can attend an upcoming open house about proposed floodplain maps.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District will hold an open house April 29 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. to gather information in connection with a watershed study.

The meeting will be held at River Ridge High School, 11646 Town Center Road in New Port Richey. Another meeting is scheduled May 1 at the same location.

Swiftmud representatives will present preliminary floodplain maps and be available to answer questions and review property owners' documents, photos and other information related to flooding on their properties.

The watershed study is funded by Swiftmud and Pasco County.

Information from the study can be used by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to develop future flood insurance maps. FEMA operates the flood insurance program.
