Gasparilla race events unaffected by water crisis

TAMPA — Don't despair about city water if you plan to run, roll or walk at this weekend's Gasparilla Distance Classic events.

Hint: Zephyrills, the water company, is a sponsor.

Expecting warm weather, organizers had already arranged for delivery of 1,200 cases of bottled spring water, race director Susan Harmeling said.

"It's loaded on trucks and ready to be delivered on Saturday and Sunday morning," she said.

Runners and volunteers will see one change. Typically there are hoses with city water that serve as backup at aid stations along the route.

"We, of course, are not going to be able to do that," Harmeling said.
