BROOKSVILLE — Hernando County government workers represented by Teamsters Local 79 overwhelmingly approved a new contract in a vote late Thursday, according to business agent John Sholtes.
Ninety-eight percent of the nonprofessional unit and 100 percent of the professional unit ratified the agreement, which has been two years in the making.
The Teamsters, which represents about 400 county workers, and county management haggled over numerous issues, but seniority was the last sticking point. Earlier this month, the union agreed to a provision whereby seniority will decide appointments and promotions when all other factors are equal.
No pay increases were built into the pact.
The contract now goes to the County Commission for final approval.
