TAMPA — To better assist people applying for passports, the Hillsborough County Clerk's Office is hosting "Passport Saturday'' July 16 at the County Courthouse.
The Clerk's Office normally accepts applications during the week, but the Saturday event is designed to help reduce long wait times at its four offices and the Tampa International Airport post office. More than 8,000 passports were processed last year.
Passports are in high demand this year because of the amount of 10-year passports issued in 2006 and 2007, when U.S. citizens were required to have passports for traveling to Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean. No appointments are necessary for Saturday's event. Passports will be processed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 140 of the County Courthouse, 419 Pierce St., Tampa.
