Largo city manager gets high marks

City manager gets high praise in review

City Manager Norton "Mac" Craig again earned high marks from city commissioners in their annual evaluations of his work, which were discussed at last week's commission meeting.

The seven commissioners gave Craig, 75, a composite rating of 4.698 on a scale of 1 to 5, which equates to "good to excellent." Commissioners lauded the work Craig has done steering the city through $14.7 million in budget cuts since 2008.

"I think we're lucky to have Mr. Craig, and I hope he stays with us for a while longer," said Mayor Pat Gerard.

Craig, an Army veteran who also worked for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, joined Largo's staff in 2000 as environmental services director and advanced to assistant city manager in 2004, then city manager in 2007.

Craig earns $164,922 in salary and benefits and will not get a raise next year.
