Lens supporters form political action committee, launch website

ST. PETERSBURG — Supporters of the Lens have formed a political action committee and launched a website and Facebook page to promote the proposed new pier.

The website, buildthepier.com, urges residents to vote no on the Aug. 27 referendum that seeks to end the contract with Michael Maltzan Architecture, designers of the $50 million Lens project. The group, Citizens for the St. Pete Pier, describes itself as being co-chaired by 15 young professionals and supported by local leaders and major organizations. Its website addresses "5 myths" about the new pier and other "stuff you might be hearing" that isn't true.
