North Pinellas holiday hours, watering rules

Palm Harbor

Community services officers

The revamped Palm Harbor Community Services Agency elected 2014 officers at a recent meeting.

The board oversees the Palm Harbor and East Lake Community libraries and Palm Harbor Parks and Recreation.

In September, the Pinellas County Commission changed the makeup of the board. Commissioners added a seat for an East Lake library representative, took away two seats that had been appointed by the Greater Palm Harbor Chamber of Commerce, and also decided that four members of the seven-member PHCSA board would be appointed by the County Commission itself.

Officers elected for 2014 are Rex Haslam, a representative from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, who will again serve as chair; Holly Bird, appointed to PHCSA by the Pinellas County Board of Commissioners, who will serve as vice chair; Tom McKone, also appointed by the County Commission, secretary; and Rob Moore, appointed by the East Lake Community Library Advisory Board, treasurer. The officers' terms will expire in October.

The other members of the PHCSA board include Sharon Pikulinski, appointed by the Friends of the Palm Harbor Library, and Terry Haas and Elliott Stern, both appointed by the Pinellas County Commission.

Clearwater

Watering rules get tougher

Tighter watering restrictions for Clearwater residents go into effect Thursday and will remain in effect through March 1, following a decision by the Southwest Florida Water Management District to implement Phase II water shortage restrictions.

City residents with established lawns may water only once per week unless they use reclaimed water. Even-numbered addresses may water on Saturdays and odd-numbered addresses on Sundays. Watering must be done before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m.

Landscape plants may be sprinkled any day at any time if they are hand-watered or a micro-irrigation device is used.

New lawns may be watered any day of the week for the first 30 days after they are planted, and three days a week for days 31 through 60. Watering must be done before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m.

Reclaimed water users may water any day before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.

Citations may be issued to those who violate the restrictions.

Residents can call the Water Conservation Hotline at (727) 562-4987 or visit myclearwater.com/watering to learn more. For any other inquiries, call Clearwater Public Utilities at (727) 562-4960.
