Big-box opponents plan to file lawsuit
Citizens opposed to a proposed big-box store next to Bloomingdale Regional Public Library plan to sue the Hillsborough County Commission.
About 80 people gathered Monday and pledged to donate money to start a legal fund and recruit others within their neighborhoods to do the same. The lawsuit, if filed, would contest a 2011 amendment to the land development code.
The text amendment, the group argued, was actually a rezoning in disguise. Unlike rezonings, the text amendment process does not require public input or meetings.
No retail outlet has been named yet to go on the property.
