Pasco tax collector hospitalized with undisclosed illness

Mike Olson, Pasco County's tax collector for the past 32 years, has been hospitalized with an undisclosed illness.

Olson, 68, was elected in 1981, making him one of Florida's longest-serving tax collectors. Before that, he served a term on the County Commission from 1974 to 1980. He is Pasco's only Democrat now in elected office.

Family members declined to comment on his condition, as did Olson's second-in-command, Eileen Ferdinand.

"He's ill and he's in the hospital for tests," local attorney Clyde Hobby said.
