Pier Diary, May 10: Anger persists at Pier

Chris Winters has been coming to the inverted pyramid for 26 years.

He now brings his young sons to fish, watch birds and stroll around the 40-year-old building. Winters is mad the Pier is closing May 31.

"I wish they wouldn't have thought of this idea," he said. "It's the stupidest idea ever. Who doesn't like coming out here to look at this? This is the most serene place."

Damian Winters, 5, said he enjoys watching pelicans on the Pier, adding: "They think the bait is yummy."

Austin Winters, 2, prefers hunting for other creatures.

"I like looking for alligators," he said, smiling.
