Pier Diary, May 17: Columbia Restaurant filling up

As the clock ticks toward the May 31 closing of the Pier, fewer opportunities exist to enjoy dinner while overlooking Tampa Bay.

The Columbia Restaurant is bursting with reservations.

On Memorial Day weekend, the restaurant has taken reservations for more than 500 guests, said spokeswoman Angela Geml.

"Based on past holiday weekend experience, we know that we get many groups who come in without reservations, and we are planning on being very busy all three days," she said.

Another 200 diners have already made reservations on May 31.
