Pier Diary, May 19: The last supper

Allison Mortimer, 10, eating at Jonny Reno's for the last time, recounted a fish she caught off the Pier once.

"It was this big," she said, stretching her hands in the usual fish measuring fashion. "We eat here a lot. Sometimes Mr. Reno (owner Jon Reno La Budde) lets me borrow his fishing rod and I fish off the Pier."

Mom Marcy Mortimer said she almost teared up when she and her husband walked into the Pier to take their two daughters on one last outing there.

"I can remember bringing them here when they had these little rides that little kids sit on. We did the Jingle Bell run with them in strollers here," Mortimer said. She brought a camera to take lots of pictures of them at their former haunts. "I'm really sad it's going to close."
