Pinellas commissioners approve backyard chickens, though no roosters allowed

Pinellas County commissioners green-lighted an ordinance allowing unincorporated area residents to raise up to four hens in backyard coops.

The board voted 5-2 Tuesday for Commissioner Susan Latvala's measure, which prohibits raising roosters and other fowl.

Advocates said chickens help with food and don't make as much noise as people fear.

No one voiced a peep in opposition.
