PSTA schedules hearings on bus routes

Published July 30, 2015

Do you ride a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus? It's time to start paying attention.

The agency is in the first phase of its plan to eliminate or redesign low-performing routes to save money. It will have four public meetings next month to provide information on the changes and take rider comments. The first phase will focus on routes 1, 18, 30, 58, 444 and the East Lake Connector.

Here's a rundown of the meetings. All of the route changes will be discussed at each meeting:

• Aug. 10, 10 a.m. to noon, East Lake Library, 4125 East Lake Road.

• Aug. 11, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Seminole Library, 9200 113th St. N.

• Aug. 17, 10 a.m. to noon, Pinellas Park Library, 7770 52nd St.

• Aug. 18, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., PSTA headquarters, 3201 Scherer Drive, St. Petersburg.

The first phase is the only one planned for 2015. If approved by the PSTA's board of directors next month, the changes are expected to save an estimated $930,000 in the agency's 2016 budget. The entire redesign plan calls for 10 phases over the next three years.
