ST. PETERSBURG — The City Council approved $168,500 for design costs for 25 transient boat slips in the city's Municipal Marina.
The slips will be mostly funded with a federal grant and maintained by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, but the city's share will eventually comprise about half of the $632,000 project.
The slips are designed to attract more day visitors. The spaces will be on a floating concrete dock anchored by guide piles in the marina's central yacht basin.
Fees for the slips will be based on prevailing rates around the region, according to documents provided to the council.
The floating dock is expected to coincide with the opening of the new pier in 2018 and other waterfront improvements called for in the downtown waterfront master plan.
