Walkers stroll Thursday along an escarpment carved by strong winds, storms and typical wintertime erosion at the southern end of Treasure Island's Sunset Beach. The beach is due to receive an infusion of sand this June, a project expected to cost more than $10 million. But in the meantime, the beach is probably not in the kind of shape snowbirds and spring breakers expect. Treasure Island Mayor Robert Minning said the city may have to call on Pinellas County to get help smoothing out the sand before the tourists start arriving en masse.
