Two to join Hillsborough County Commission race

TAMPA — Two familiar past candidates say they're jumping into the race for the Hillsborough County Commission seat held by Republican Brian Blair.

Lutz activist Dee Layne, a Democrat, said Tuesday she'll file to run against Blair next week. Entrepreneur Joe Redner, best known as the owner of the Mons Venus strip club, said he will file in June. He, too, is a Democrat.

That brings to three Blair's challengers so far. Democrat Kevin Beckner qualified for the race by petition last month.

Layne has run unsuccessfully for the commission twice. A neighborhood association president and founder of the Coalition for Responsible Growth in 2005, she has lobbied for environmental and growth management issues.

Redner has run unsuccessfully for public office six times. He said that, as in the past, he will take no donations and will focus on the environment, education and controlling growth.
