Dontavion Fleming, 31, was killed in front of a barber shop.

Dontavion Fleming, 31, was killed in front of a barber shop.

ST. PETERSBURG — Police arrested a man Saturday afternoon, accusing him of killing a father outside a barbershop as one of his sons watched.

Hopeton Johnson, 20, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Dontavion Lamar Fleming, 31, on April 11 outside the ATL Barber Shop, 2910 18th Ave S.

Johnson was arrested at 2900 24th Ave. S.

Fleming and his four sons, including 11-year-old Dontavion Lamar Fleming Jr., had all just gotten haircuts when Fleming had words with a man inside a car parked outside the shop.

Fleming begged the man not to shoot him in front of his children and told his boys to get back inside the shop. But the 11-year-old watched through a window as his father fell to the ground.
