A piece of history is coming together at the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport. "Zephyrhills used to be a World War II training facility for pilots. A lot of people don't realize that," said Cliff Moffett of Dade City. "We're hoping this plane will draw people to the museum ... and that's what were trying to do, save a piece of history." The plane, a Douglas C-47/C-53D, was brought to Zephyrhills by truck in pieces, with its wings arriving in September and the rest arriving in the past couple of weeks. Moffett said the plane was built in 1942 and delivered to the U.S. Army Air Forces in June of 1943. Because the plane was specially built for parachute drops, Moffett believes the plane almost certainly was used during the invasion of Europe.
