Airman assigned to MacDill dies

TAMPA — A 25-year-old airman assigned to MacDill Air Force Base died Friday in an "off-base incident," the military said.

He was identified Sunday as senior airman Douglas Caldas, who was assigned to the 6th Medical Support Squadron.

"On behalf of the MacDill family I want to extend our sympathy to the friends and family of our fallen Airman during this time of sorrow," said a statement from Col. Scott DeThomas, 6th Air Mobility Wing commander.

The location and cause of death have not been released by the Air Force. The base said in a statement that the death is under investigation.
