Fallen soldier's casket to receive escort from MacDill

TAMPA — A fallen hero will be escorted Friday morning from MacDill Air Force Base.

The escort for U.S. Army Pfc. Michael Mahr should leave the base by about 11 a.m. and head to Purcell Funeral Home in Bushnell, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Mahr was killed March 22 in Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device and other weapons, according to the Defense Department. He was nearly halfway through his first tour of duty.

Mahr had three children and a wife, Stephanie. He was from Orlando but most recently lived in Homosassa.
