TAMPA — The former commander of the 6th Air Mobility Wing at MacDill Air Force Base has been named as senior vice president for products and member sales at GTE Financial, one of Florida's largest credit unions.

Scott DeThomas, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a pilot, retired earlier this month as a colonel after more than 23 years in the Air Force. He commanded the wing for two years.

"Scott's business acumen and leadership ability to forge relationships toward a common goal is one of many reasons he is a perfect fit for our management team," Joe Brancucci, president of the Tampa-based credit union, said in a prepared statement Thursday.

While in the Air Force, DeThomas served as a finance officer and director of staff to the secretary of the Air Force, among other duties.
