MacDill Air Force Base names next commander

TAMPA — MacDill Air Force Base's next commander will be Col. Scott V. DeThomas, who is currently commander of the 387th Air Expeditionary Group based out of Kuwait, MacDill officials said on Thursday.

DeThomas, a pilot who is a 1990 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, will replace MacDill's current chief, Col. Lenny Richoux, in a change-of-command ceremony scheduled for July 27, the base said.

Richoux's next assignment will be in Belgium, where he will serve as the special assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe and the U.S. European Command, MacDill confirmed.

Richoux took command of MacDill in July 2010.
