A group of special forces personnel left Hurlburt Field in Florida's Panhandle on Sunday for a 450-mile walk scheduled to end Friday at MacDill Air Force Base, honoring five comrades killed in the line of duty.
The event will raise money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation in Tampa, organizers say. The walk by a group calling itself the Air Commando Ruckers is being done in relays with two people always on the road at any given time as the others rest.
Once in Tampa, they will march to MacDill, where U.S. Special Operations Command is headquartered. They are expected to then visit a memorial where the names of special force personnel killed in action are etched on a wall.
The group hopes to raise $50,000. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/pages/Air-Commando-Ruckers/274979869218743.
