Air Force Airman John M. Lontakos, son of Cindy Tergliafera of Polk City and George Lontakos of Tarpon Springs, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Lontakos is a 2006 graduate of Lake Gibson High, Lakeland.

The Morris F. Dixon Jr. Detachment 54 of the Marine Corps League in Largo recently participated in the second annual "Christmas in July" event sponsored by St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa.

The Detachment donated about 500 toys to the hospital, all of which were delivered with the help of Jerry Miner of the Armed Forces Military Museum in Largo and longtime Toys for Tots volunteer Jack Johnson.
