Army Spec. Justin A. Goelz, grandson of Sally Burnett of Pinellas Park, has completed the Warrior Transition Course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Goelz is a 2003 graduate of Pinellas Park High School.

Air Force Airman Nathaniel C. Scheffel, son of Mary Corry of St. Petersburg, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Scheffel earned distinction as an honor graduate.

Steven Rusnak of Seminole received congratulations on his acceptance to the U.S. Military Academy from U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, R-Fla.

"These young students join a prestigious group representing the best of Florida, and our nation," LeMieux said. "Their years of hard work and dedication to academic excellence have paid off with an appointment to our nation's finest military institutions. I am very proud of these young men and women, and I thank them for their courage and commitment to protecting our nation."

Rusnak, who attends St. Petersburg Catholic High School, is one of 30 students whom LeMieux nominated this year for positions with a U.S. military academy.
