PALM HARBOR — The remains of U.S. Army Spc. Zachary L. Shannon, a Dunedin resident killed in Afghanistan March 11, will arrive at MacDill Air Force Base Monday morning.

The plane carrying Shannon's remains is scheduled to arrive at the base at 10:30 a.m., followed by an escort at 11:15 a.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Shannon joined the U.S. Army and trained to be a mechanic on UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters after graduating from Dunedin High School in 2010. Last year, he was deployed to Afghanistan, where he was stationed in Kandahar.
