TAMPA — A Denver native who has worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs about 28 years has been appointed director of the James A. Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa, the VA confirmed Friday.

Kathleen Fogarty, the director of the VA Health Care System of the Ozarks based in Fayetteville, Ark., will take the top job at Haley on Sept. 8, Haley spokeswoman Carolyn Clark said.

Haley has been without a permanent director since the March 2010 retirement of Stephen Lucas.

Fogarty, who could not be reached for comment, has worked at eight different veterans hospitals. She has been director of the Ozarks hospital since 2007.

Fogarty earned a bachelor's degree in dietetics and a master's degree in nutrition.
