TAMPA — The body of an Air Force major killed in Afghanistan will arrive earlier than expected for an escort today from MacDill Air Force Base.
Maj. Raymond G. Estelle II, 40, started as a communications officer at MacDill, from 1999 to 2001. He also temporarily served at U.S. Central Command.
He was one of eight U.S. troops and a civilian killed in an April 27 attack at the Kabul airport when an Afghan pilot opened fire.
The major's remains are expected at MacDill two hours earlier than first thought. A sheriff's escort will follow this route to the Ray Williams Funeral Home, 301 N Howard Ave.:
Leave MacDill at 12:45 p.m. from Bayshore gate; north on Bayshore Boulevard; east across Platt Street Bridge; north on Florida Avenue; east on Jackson Street; north on Jefferson Street; west on Twiggs Street; south on Ashley Drive; west on Kennedy Boulevard; north on Howard.
