British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher passes away

LONDON -- Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, known as the "Iron Lady'' of Great Britain, has died, according to new reports. She was 87.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said the nation had lost " a great leader.

Britain's only female prime minister, Thatcher was widely credited for bringing profound change to Great Britain and for championing women in leadership roles.

Thatcher served as prime minister from 1979-1990 before retiring from public life after a series of strokes.

She was the longest-serving prime minister in the 20th century.
