Minn. teen gets 3 years for prostituting minor

A would-be teen pimp gets 3 years

A former cheerleading captain at a suburban Minneapolis high school was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for prostituting a younger squad member and keeping the money for herself. Montia Parker, 18, of Maple Grove previously pleaded guilty to three prostitution-related counts. She was ordered into custody, and must spend at least two years behind bars before she's eligible for release. She must also register as a sex offender. Parker admitted that in March she told a 16-year-old fellow cheerleader at Hopkins High School that the girl could earn money through prostitution. After the younger girl agreed, Parker placed an ad for her online, then took her to an apartment where the girl was paid to perform oral sex. The girl gave Parker $60, which the judge said went toward "a pair of sneakers." Two men who responded to Parker's ad await prosecution, according to authorities.

Zimbabwean art on display again

Six African artifacts stolen from Zimbabwe's main art gallery in 2006 are back on display for the first time in the country since a recovery operation by U.S. law enforcement agents in Poland, the museum curator said Friday. A man convicted of the theft was jailed after he tried to sell the art to an American buyer who alerted U.S. authorities as part of a sting operation, said National Art Gallery curator Lillian Chaonwa. The artifacts, which were unveiled Thursday in Harare, included two tribal face masks and four intricately carved wooden headrests from the early 20th century believed to have had mystical properties during sleep. African museums are being targeted by thieves who know there is value to collectors in the rarity of the continent's artworks, Chaonwa said.

Trip to Jupiter is back on track

NASA's Jupiter-bound spacecraft that looped around Earth to catapult to the outer solar system is operating normally again, scientists said Friday. Juno hit a snag this week after it flew past Earth to increase its speed to barrel beyond the asteroid belt to Jupiter. Despite the problem, scientists say Juno is on target to slip into orbit around Jupiter. It's expected to arrive in 2016.
