To our readers:
Beginning May 2, the Tampa Bay Times will introduce a reimagined St. Pete Times section with a new look to bring you the most interesting and important news and information about your community every Friday.
It will be a robust, community-focused weekly "newspaper within a newspaper" with news, entertainment, sports, business and real estate. It will serve our readers hand in hand with the daily newspaper — where you will find more local news every day that matters to South Pinellas residents — and our website, tampabay.com, a 24/7 source of breaking news and information.
The new St. Pete Times will have a different look, switching from tabloid size to broadsheet, like the rest of the newspaper, to give our readers more news on the front page. In addition, an important voice returns as we add local editorials each week. Look for them on page 2, along with your letters to the editor. Plus, we're adding a high school sports page to provide our readers more local sports and complement the coverage in the main Sports section.
Starting May 2, you'll find Dan Ruth's column on the front page of the section. Real estate listings that previously ran Wednesday will be found Friday, as will our Things to Do entertainment report. Our education page moves from Sunday into the new Friday section. A community news report on Page 3 will give you a quick overview of many stories happening in your neighborhood and those surrounding it.
We're also excited to introduce a new online-only feature on our website, tampabay.com. We've created a quick and easily searchable database of crimes reported in your area. You can search by your ZIP code, street name or the type of crime. The reports are updated daily. To see the online crime report, go to tampabay.com/Pinellas and click on the crime report link in the middle of the page.
There are some changes coming in our advertising products as well. The popular MarketLink section, which has been published on Fridays, will be moving to Sundays beginning May 4. It will continue to include local advertising and Things to Do listings.
You will get your first new weekly St. Pete Times on Friday, May 2. The last Wednesday St. Pete Times will be April 23 and the last Sunday section will be April 27.
With these changes, we want to assure you of one thing: The Times' commitment to covering local news of consequence is unwavering. We have made adjustments from time to time in the way we present the news to you. But we've always remained the county's foremost and most reliable source of news.
We have the largest and most talented news-gathering staff in Pinellas County, and we will continue to closely watch your governments, those who seek your vote and to shine lights in dark corners.
We believe you're going to like our new St. Pete Times section. If you have questions or comments, we would like to hear from you. The best way to reach us is by email at email@example.com. If you'd rather speak by phone, call (727) 893-8925.
