TAMPA — A memorial service for Dottie Berger MacKinnon, a celebrated advocate for abused and neglected children, will be held Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. Berger MacKinnon died Sunday of cancer at age 71.
She was a co-founder of Joshua House and the Friends of Joshua House, and the founder regarded as most central to the Kids Charity of Tampa Bay and A Kid's Place, which all offer aid to children in crisis.
She was elected in 1994 to the Hillsborough County Commission.
A memorial service is set for 4 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 906 S Orleans Ave. in South Tampa. A celebration of life reception will be held afterward at the Tampa Yacht and Country Club.
