Open for thrills

Hours before the first patrons arrived, rides and midway attractions stand ready Thursday morning for the first day of the 110th Florida State Fair. At right is the 52-foot-tall Comet II, the largest portable roller coaster in the United States. Gov. Rick Scott opened the fair, and he and Cabinet members strolled through the grounds. This year’s fair has more than 6,000 animals, 100 rides and the requisite fair food. Ramen noodle burger, anyone? Story, 3B
