Grant open to Women for continuing education

The Soroptimist of Pinellas County club is offering grants to women who serve as primary wage earners for their families and need financial assistance to continue their education or receive training. Applications for the Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women are available by contacting Betsi Lewis at betsi.lewis1919@gmail.com, or by visiting sorptimistsflorida.com. The application deadline is Nov. 15. The club will provide a $1,500 cash grant to its award recipient, who will advance to the Soroptimist Southern Region level, where recipients could receive up to an additional $5,000. The program culminates with three finalist $10,000 awards that can be used for tuition, books, childcare or other education-related expenses.

High school seniors: Time to apply for foundation scholarships

The Pinellas Education Foundation has opened the application process for the more than 150 scholarships available each year to seniors in the Pinellas school system. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 15. About 1,500 to 2,000 students apply every year. Open house at St. Cecelia

St. Cecelia School in Clearwater will hold an open house from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Visitors will be able to tour classrooms and meet teachers throughout the day. The school is at 1350 Court St. To make a reservation, call (727) 461-1207.

Eckerd talk for film fest will focus on the politics of global warming

Mohamed Nasheed, the former president of the Maldives whose climate change activism has drawn worldwide attention, will discuss the politics of global warming at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eckerd College's Miller Auditorium. The talk is part of the Blue Ocean Film Festival and is free and open to the public. Eckerd College is at 4200 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg.

Elementary school lunches

Monday: Hamburger/cheeseburger, popcorn chicken with biscuit, farmer's salad, chicken Caesar wrap, seasoned curly fries, romaine or tossed salad.

Tuesday: Seasoned beef or pork tacos; Max cheese sticks with marinara, chicken Caesar salad, Italian sub, refried fiesta beans, veggie dippers.

Wednesday: Turkey burger with cheese and bacon, chili cheese fries with jalapeno muffin, hummus salad, ham and cheese croissant, corn, salad.

Thursday: Firecracker chicken over rice with roll, Fernando's cheesy quesadilla with salsa, Greek salad, turkey and cheese sandwich, broccoli, veggie dippers.

Friday: Pizza, catfish fingers with breaded okra, chef salad, school favorite sandwich, sliced carrots.
