Police identify dead woman found in vacant St. Petersburg house

ST. PETERSBURG — Police have released the identity of a woman whose body was found on Friday in a vacant house.

Ellie L. Mason, 45, was found at about 12:30 p.m. at 2032 Sixth Ave. N. Police said she was discovered by a real estate agent who stopped by to check on the duplex, which was unlocked.

Mason showed signs of trauma to her upper body and appeared to have been dead for several days. Police are investigating.

The one-story home, flanked by Interstate 275 and hidden from street view by another house, went into foreclosure in 2008, county records show. Property records list the owner as a California investment company.

James and Larry Davis, brothers who have lived on the street for a decade, said the house has sometimes been inhabited by homeless people, but they had not see any recent activity there.
