LAND O'LAKES — Vice President Joe Biden will visit Oakstead Elementary on Tuesday as part of his sweep through Florida promoting the American Jobs Act.
Biden will give a speech at the school urging Congress to pass the bill to keep teachers in the classroom and rebuild schools. Eight of the 83 teachers at Oakstead were laid off earlier this year, as the Pasco school district eliminated 513 positions due to budget cuts. Many who were laid off were later rehired in other positions, however.
The White House says the vice president will focus on the impact of teacher layoffs on the quality of education for middle class families, highlighting how budget cuts are impacting children's education and prospects for competing in the future.
