It's qualifying time for candidates seeking office in five Pasco municipalities.

The window to qualify opens at noon Tuesday and closes at noon Feb. 17 for elections in New Port Richey, Zephyrhills, Port Richey, San Antonio and St. Leo.

Elections are scheduled for April 14.

In three cities, several candidates have prefiled to run or have announced their intent.

With two seats up for grabs in New Port Richey, Deputy Mayor Judy Debella Thomas and council member Bill Phillips announced during a recent City Council meeting that they will seek re-election. No one has prefiled.

Two candidates have prefiled to run for council seats in Port Richey: incumbent Nancy Britton and local businessman Richard Melton. Sitting council member Terry Rowe said he, too, plans to file for re-election.

In Zephyrhills, voters will fill two seats on the City Council — Seat 3, held by Kent Compton, and Seat 5, occupied by Charles Proctor. Both have prefiled for re-election. Joining the two will be Dylan Kinsman, who has also prefiled.

Pasco's smallest municipalities each have two seats coming up this year.

In San Antonio, the seats of Mayor Tim Newlon and Commissioner Mark Anderson will be filled by voters. In St. Leo, commissioners Gregory Smith and Arnold Curington will see their seats go up for grabs. No one has prefiled in either town.
