SEMINOLE — Four candidates have qualified for two open seats on the City Council.
Incumbents Bob Matthews, first elected in 1990, and Roger Edelman, first elected in 2014, face challenges from Tom Christy, who is making his eighth run for a council seat, and newcomer Joseph E. Pacelli.
The top two vote-getters in the nonpartisan election, scheduled for Nov. 7, will take office for three-year terms.
Also on the ballot is a countywide referendum for the renewal of the Penny for Pinellas sales tax. The city will receive slightly more than $23 million for projects undertaken between 2020 and 2030 if the referendum passes.
The deadline to register to vote in the election is Oct. 10. For information about the election, including an upcoming candidate forum, visit myseminole.com.
